I and my team members went out on a survey in March 2022. Our target was to speak with 100 persons about their reading culture in 2022
We had 110 questionnaires printed and we chose our locations carefully. We went to shopping malls, big eateries, Industrialized areas, government residential areas and Student areas
We also spoke with different categories of people: students, employers/employees, business persons, clergy, parents, educators etc
Our questions were simple
1. How many books have you read cover to cover this year 2022?
2. What is your greatest challenge to reading the way you would really like to?
Am not sure you are ready for the responses we got
Only 4 persons have read a book cover to cover this year
The highest challenge mentioned was a LACK OF TIME (BUSY). Others are:
- Procrastination
- Laziness
- Low motivation
- Distraction (Social Media, Family Chores etc)
- I don't like reading. It is boring, stressful and time consuming
- I don't have books to read
- I feel lonely when reading

As I got home and taught about these responses, I felt bad đ. The reason is because I have dedicated more than 10 years of my life inspiring people to read and it is almost as if the more work you put in, the more work that still needs to be done
